  • Spring Blooms on the Embankment

    Over 40,000 tulip bulbs were planted along the Embankment back in Autumn, getting ready for the Spring flowering season.

    These are now in full bloom alongside bedding plants including Bellis, Myosotis and Polyanthus, creating a stunning floral scene along the river.

  • Bedford Borough Council Executive Considers Local Plan for Consultation

    Next week, Bedford Borough Council will consider the Local Plan 2040 for its next and final stage of consultation.

    The first stage of Bedford Borough Council's £1.5million investment to enhance the Embankment and Riverside along the Great Ouse is set to begin this week with improvement works to the Embankment pavement.

  • £500,000 Investment in Play Areas Begins

    Bedford Borough Council is making a £500,000 investment in children’s play areas in 2022, with improvement works set to be carried out this Spring.

    The works being carried out at each site will vary, but includes new play equipment, new fencing and measures to make the play areas more accessible with pathways for all users, including for wheelchairs and prams.

  • Bedford Borough Council Appoint New Director of Children’s Services


    Following a competitive selection process, Martin Purbrick has been offered the role of Bedford Borough Council’s Director of Children’s Services.

    Martin has been the Interim Director of Children’s Services, stepping up from Chief Officer of Children’s Service, since 2020.

    Prior to joining Bedford Borough in 2015, Martin has worked in Children’s Services for almost 30 years so he brings a lot of experience to the role.

    We are pleased to announce that PBIC is working closely with The Harpur Trust and Bedford Borough Council to coordinate care and support for guests from Ukraine arriving in Bedford. The Harpur Trust and Bedford Borough Council are jointly funding towards this project to be delivered by PBIC which is helping Ukrainian people to settle into the local community whilst ensuring they are guided to the appropriate help and services they need and to which they are entitled.
