Music in The Meadows 2025: A celebration of local music at the bandstand

Bedford Borough Council is proud to present Music in The Meadows 2025, a vibrant series of free live music concerts held every Sunday in August at the picturesque Mill Meadows Bandstand. This year’s line-up features outstanding brass and jazz ensembles from Bedford Borough and the surrounding area, offering something for every music lover.

Event schedule:

  • 3 August: Milton Keynes Brass
  • 10 August: May Blossom, Vintage Songbird
  • 17 August: Fynnius Fogg (2-5pm)
  • 24 August: Mainline Big Band
  • 31 August: The Freedom Jazz Orchestra

All performances run 3-5pm (except Fynnius Fogg, performing 2-5pm). Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics and seating, with limited deckchairs available on site.For the convenience of visitors, a portable toilet will also be provided at the event.

About the Bands:

  • Milton Keynes Brass is a renowned British-style community brass band founded in 1984. Known for their rich sound and musical versatility, they have won multiple regional championships and toured internationally. Their engaging performances blend traditional brass band music with contemporary pieces, making them a highlight for brass enthusiasts and families alike.
  • May Blossom, Vintage Songbird brings nostalgic charm with her vintage-style vocals, performing classic songs from around 1900 to the mid 1960s and wartime songs that resonate with Bedford’s musical heritage.
  • Fynnius Fogg, a legendary 1970s pop and rock band from Bedford, reunites to support local causes with their timeless hits, demonstrating Bedford’s enduring musical spirit.
  • Mainline Big Band delivers a dynamic big band experience, featuring two vocalists and a set spanning from the 1920s to modern jazz and swing, captivating audiences with their energy and style.

The Freedom Jazz Orchestra is a vibrant local jazz ensemble known for their soulful and uplifting performances, blending music of the classic big band era alongside contemporary and modern jazz classics to create a truly memorable sound experience that celebrates freedom, diversity and creativity in music.

From the stirring brass sounds of Milton Keynes Brass to the energetic rhythms of The Freedom Jazz Orchestra, this year’s programme offers something for everyone. 

“I encourage residents and visitors to come along, bring a picnic, and soak up the wonderful atmosphere of live music by the river.”

This free event series highlights Bedford Borough’s vibrant cultural scene and supports local artists while providing a safe and enjoyable outdoor entertainment option for all.
