This year’s Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival has been heralded as the “best ever”.

Over the course of a beautiful sunny weekend, thousands of visitors from far and wide enjoyed a selection of professional kite-flying displays plus 200 cars spanning from sleek modern cars to vintage motors from more than a century ago.

And that wasn’t all. The day also included interactive events from Bedford Borough Council’s Sports Development Team collaborating with GLL and Spiral Free Running, a cavalcade running each day, and the ‘Blues Lights’ display area.

Live music took place at the Mill Meadows bandstand and in the Green Earth Vegan Lounge, while there were water sports on the River Great Ouse courtesy of Canoe Trail, Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Racing, and river cruises on the John Bunyan Boat.

Bedford Borough Council’s SEND Team provided an inclusion activity area that was busy all weekend.

And for the first time ever there was a Literary Tent, with craft activities and readings, as well as performances from renowned authors and illustrators, as part of the Bedford Borough Year of Reading.

Councillor Andrea Spice, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Planning and Prosperity said; “Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this the best-ever Kite and Motoring Festival.

“From the sponsors whose support made this weekend possible, the stall-holders and entertainers who provided so many reasons to attend, who made this such a welcoming event.

“But also, a special thank you to all the council staff who work so hard all year round, and who are constantly looking for new ways to make this a wonderful place to live, work and socialise.

“There’s so much more taking place in Bedford Borough throughout the rest of the year, I look forward to seeing you there!”
