  • Works Progress on Ampthill Road

    Works began on Ampthill Road in May 2021, to deliver major improvement works.

    These include widening the road, creating a second northbound lane between Elstow Road and Britannia Road for buses and Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, and improving provision for vehicles turning right into side roads off Ampthill Road – helping traffic flow better and easing congestion.

    Bedford Borough Council has achieved a Silver Award in the Ministry of Defence, Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

  • Bedford High Street Works Move to Overnight


    With Phase 2 of the Bedford High Street improvement works on track to finish ahead of schedule, as the next stage of works on the east of St Paul’s Square begins.

    In consultation with businesses and restaurants in the area, the decision has been made to carry out this stage of works overnight only from 8pm to 5am. This started at 8pm on Sunday 19 September. It is expected that night works will be complete by the end of October.

  • Motorists Reminded to Follow Diversions Through Roadworks


    Anglian Water is carrying out essential mains strengthening works in Oakley Road, Bromham to ensure the pipes continue to supply water to the surrounding areas. This work is expected to be complete by 22 October.

  • Nearly 3,500 Tonnes of Glass Recycled in Bedford Borough

    In 2020/21, 3,465 tonnes of “high quality” glass was collected from over 50 mini recycling sites across Bedford Borough.

    According to RecycleNow, each time just one tonne of glass is recycled, about 580kg of carbon dioxide is saved through the supply chain.

  • New Political Map for Bedford Borough Council

    Bedford is set to have new boundaries for its council wards.

    The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) is the independent body that draws these boundaries. It has reviewed Bedford to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements will help the council work effectively.
