The Community Toilet Scheme (CTS) is for businesses and organisations who are happy to allow members of the public to use their toilet facilities.
Benefits of joining the Community Toilet Scheme
- More people coming into and using your business
- Free publicity: we will add your premises to our list of participating businesses
- Great way to show community involvement and social responsibility
Toilets available through the Community Toilet Scheme add to the number of Council-operated public conveniences already in the town.
By having more toilets for public use within Bedford town centre’s main shopping area, people’s shopping experience will be enhanced and it can help encourage those that may otherwise feel isolated, to visit the town centre.
How to join the scheme

You can also email Environmental Services on Env.services@bedford.gov.uk for further information.
How the scheme works
Businesses joining the scheme agree to keep the toilets clean, and available to all members of the public, in return for a financial contribution by the Council.
This contribution is to cover the extra costs incurred by you for extra cleaning due to increased usage.
All conveniences are inspected by Council staff and the facilities on offer noted, for example: baby changing facilities, disabled access, suitability for parents to take children and opening hours.
When you join the scheme we will give you signs to display in your premises and your business name will be on signs in the town centre.
