How we support adults and older people in Bedford Borough
To enable adults and older people in Bedford Borough to live well and remain independent, we aim to:
- Provide early help and intervention that prevents, delays or reduces the need to use adult social care services.
- Encourage and support independence, helping people to help themselves.
- Provide services of the highest quality, which promote good outcomes and are ‘value for money’.
- Design services with the individual service user and their family / carers in mind.
- Ensure individuals are kept safe from abuse, neglect and harm by prioritising the safeguarding of the vulnerable.
Our team’s recent achievements and innovative practice
We are on a journey to become a beacon of success and we are proud of our teams’ achievements and innovative approaches, such as:
- We recently won an award for our use of RITA (Reminiscence/ rehabilitation and Interactive Therapy Activities), an interactive technology to support people in care homes with dementia.
- We have developed schemes to support people with a range of needs to continue to live independently in the community, through a focus on lives, not services, away from traditional models to independent living alongside, and within, our communities.
- We have developed a new Adult Services Contact Team, which is a modern, responsive service to support people when they first contact us.
- We celebrate innovation and in 2024 we have added two new roles to our team - a Principal Social Worker and Principal Occupational Therapist. These new recruits are working closely with our social work and statutory teams to continue to develop best practice across our work.
