You can find further information on how to:
Register a birth
A claim for child benefit or universal credit may up to 31/10/2021 be made prior to the birth being registered. With effect from 01/11/2021 the birth must be registered prior to making these claims.
No penalty will be incurred for births not registered within the statutory 42 day period due to the Pandemic.
Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic we have seen a significant increase in the number of deaths which require registration. Death registrations and the associated paperwork will be given priority over other Registration Services.
We have re-introduced Birth Registrations but are aware that there is a large backlog. We aim to register births in date order and would ask for your patience and understanding.
If you live in Central Bedfordshire, you may wish to contact Central Bedfordshire Council’s Registration Service to complete a “declaration” of your baby's birth, which they will then post to us. Please apply for any certificates required with Bedford.
We have placed all the relevant information on our website which we will keep updated as the situation changes.
We are currently unable to process any certificate applications. Please order any certificates required with the General Register Office here.
If the birth occurred in Bedford Borough on or after 1 January 2020 please e-mail your contact details to email@example.com and a registration officer will call you.
A naming ceremony provides an opportunity to celebrate the birth of a child, or to welcome an adopted child or a step-child into your family.
