Armed Forces Covenant
Mayor Tom Wooton is passionate about supporting the Armed Forces. Our Armed Forces Champion is Cllr Andrea Spice. and Bedford Borough Council also has its own dedicated Armed Forces Covenant, Senior Officer who can be contacted about anything to do with the Armed Forces.
Bedford Borough Council signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012. The Covenant promises that those who serve or have served, and their families, will be treated fairly in all aspects of life. A bespoke version of the Covenant was re-signed in March 2024. We are excited to reiterate our commitment to the armed forces community.
Gold Award
We are extremely proud of being awarded gold award status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme this year. Gold status was awarded following our continual and committed support of the Armed Forces Community. The scheme encourages employers across the country to do more for the armed forces in their area.
We support Bedford Borough’s service personnel community in many ways, including a guaranteed veteran interview scheme. We’re proud of colleagues who are reservists and adult cadet force volunteers. Find out more about covenant duties and how they may be delivered using the Covenant Duty Toolkit.
Any employer or business can sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant or join the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
More information can be found on The Armed Forces Covenant website and anyone who needs help or information can contact Eileen on bbafc@bedford.gov.uk.
