What is a Family Hub?

Bedford Borough Family Hubs are welcoming places where you and your family can go to enjoy fun-filled activities, meet people in your community and learn new skills. From coffee mornings and workshops, to storytelling, cooking, and gardening, there's something for all ages.

Who are Family Hubs for?

We are here for all families from the moment you are expecting a child until they turn 19 or, if they have special needs, until they turn 25. We have activities and support for all ages. If you want to meet other parents, want something fun to do with or just need some advice, we can help.

Where are the Family Hubs?

We have two Family Hub buildings: Queens Park on Marlborough Road and Pine Cones on Slade Walk.

Much more is on offer through our Best Start Bedford website and through our ability to connect families with a range of services and professionals across Bedford Borough.

What happens at a Family Hub?

We have a full timetable for 0-5 year olds and we are working hard to introduce activities for older children. A lot of our sessions are drop-in but you can also find bookable activities.

You can find regular updates on things to do, information and ideas to help families in the local area on our Family Hubs Facebook page and by signing up to receive our half-termly newsletter straight to your inbox.

Here is a list of activities and services running from the Family Hubs and Children’s Centres:

  • Coffee mornings to meet other parents.
  • Dads groups.
  • Play, learn and exploration sessions for babies and toddlers.
  • Quiet sessions for children with SEND.
  • Baby Massage.
  • Baby Brasseries for parents who are breastfeeding and want to meet others and have the chance to ask for advice.
  • Workshops to help you with aspects of your child’s development such as toilet training and feeding.
  • Well-being support.
  • Help and advice with the everyday challenges as a parent.

How can I get in touch?

You can email us for more information on familyhubs@bedford.gov.uk or send us a message via our Family Hubs Facebook page and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

If you’d like to speak to someone please call our Children’s Centres on 0300 323 0245 (8.30am-4.30pm Monday-Friday) or the Family Information service on 0800 023 2057 (open Monday-Friday 9-4pm with a 24 hour answerphone service).

How do you know what families want?

In the summer of 2023 we completed a local Needs Assessment to find out. This meant working with lots of local families and organisations through conversations, surveys and focus groups.

Download the Needs Assessment Executive Summary (PDF) to read more about what we found. We are using this information to help us shape the vision for Family Hubs and local family services moving forward.

Can I help?

Yes! We want our Family Hubs and Children’s Centres in Bedford Borough to be right for parents and their families and the only way we can make sure we are doing that is to have you involved.

There are few ways you can do this:

Anything else?
