How to get Occupational Therapy help

If you need practical support and help with everyday tasks, such as washing and dressing, making a meal, getting to the bathroom, or seeking help following a fall, then occupational therapy may be able to help.

Our team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, First Response and Telecare Assessors can advise and assess your needs.

You can call us on 01234 718006.

After an initial assessment over the phone, we will discuss how your needs may be met, which might include:

  • private purchase of equipment
  • an appointment with one of the First Response Team or Telecare Assessors to complete an assessment relating to safety at home
  • an appointment at the Centre for Independent Living to complete a Specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and/ or trial of equipment
  • arrange to visit you in your home to complete a Specialist Occupational Therapy Assessment.

Following our assessment we may be able to provide you with:

  • equipment to promote your safety and independence, including Telecare
  • minor adaptations to your home, including rails
  • guidance or advice on how you can adapt your lifestyle to make your life easier
  • information regarding voluntary agencies that may be able to provide you or your carer with support

Where appropriate, we may recommend major adaptations to your property through the Disabled Facilities Grants. This is a means tested grant which may require you to contribute towards the cost of any recommended adaptation to your home.
