Local authorities have to develop and publish a Local Transport Plan to show how they will improve local transport, including every transport-related policy in one document.

This plan comprises a vision and set of strategic policies that manage how all local transport improvements are delivered through supporting strategies. These include the infrastructure plans for bus services, local walking, wheeling and cycling networks, public rights of way and sustainable school travel as well as the local road network.

Bedford Borough Council is currently developing its next plan which is expected to run to 2050. This will be developed using information and evidence on the current situation collected from people and data sources.

You can view the existing plan (LTP3).

Help to shape transport in Bedford Borough over the next 25 years

Have your say on the future of transport in Bedford Borough over the next 25 years, by completing the Local Transport Plan (LTP) survey.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete and will help to shape all Council policies relating to transport, such as planning and highways. It will also inform the Council’s position on transport issues that it does not control, such as railways, commercial bus services and waterways.

As well as the public survey, Bedford Borough Council will also be consulting with transport groups, community organisations, schools, businesses, the emergency services, parish councils, and many other stakeholders.

Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, says: “If you live, work or travel in Bedford Borough, our local transport infrastructure has a huge impact on your life, from roads to bus services to cycle lanes. The LTP will help shape the Council's approach to every issue that relates to transport over the next 25 years. Make sure your voice is heard.”
