  • New Mini-Roundabouts to be Installed on Goldington Road

    Starting on Tuesday 3rd September, Bedford Borough Council is installing two mini-roundabouts on Goldington Road.

    One will be at the junction with Goldington Green and the other at the junction with Barkers Lane. These are well-known difficult junctions on this busy road into and out of the town centre. The new mini roundabouts will replace the existing T-junctions and make it easier for traffic to keep moving.

  • Priory Country Park Nationally Recognised

    Priory Country Park is once again in the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame after receiving a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for five years in a row.

    TripAdvisor is an online travel site where people can review places they have visited.

    The 2019 ‘Certificate of Excellence’ recognises that this fantastic local country park consistently receives high ratings from visitors. The Hall of Fame recognises those sites that receive these consistently high ratings for five years in a row.

  • GCSE Results

    Provisional GCSE results have been released today showing that Bedford Borough students’ Average Attainment 8 Score for 2019 was 45.45, which is up from last year. This is the average score obtained by a student for their best 8 GCSE results. This increase mirrors the national picture.

    Once again, over 60% of students secured a Grade 4 and above in both English and Maths subjects.

  • CCTV Team Tackling ‘Throw Overs’ at Bedford Prison

    Bedford Borough Council’s CCTV Team have aided Bedfordshire Police in tackling ‘throw overs’ of contraband items at Bedford Prison.

    The CCTV Team spotted three individuals throwing contraband items over the wall at Bedford Prison on two separate occasions in the space of two days. They quickly got in touch with Bedfordshire Police, facilitating successful arrests.

  • Gentle Exercise Classes for the Over 70s

    A new set of gentle exercise classes and activities for the over 70s has begun in Bedford.

    These classes join a huge range of activities and sports sessions arranged by Bedford Borough Council from Active Adults sessions aimed at the over 35s, to Junior Parkrun and Just Turn Up for younger people, and the Mindful Sport programme to help with mental health.

  • Consultation Open on Proposed Modifications to Local Plan 2030

    Bedford Borough Council is consulting on proposed modifications to the Local Plan 2030.

    The Council’s Local Plan 2030 has been progressing, with hearings held by the Planning Inspectorate in May and June 2019.

    Following these hearings, the Council was invited by the Inspectorate to submit a number of modifications to the Plan. These include ‘main modifications’ which are required for the Plan to be taken forward and considered ‘sound’.

  • A-Level Results!

    Exam celebrations for students and staff took place across Bedford Borough today with provisional figures showing that nearly 99% [98.9%] of our pupils achieved at least 1 A* to E grade and 83.8% of our students achieved 3 or more A* to E grades at A-level; an increase from 2018.

  • New online counselling and emotional wellbeing service available for children and young people in Bedford Borough

    A free, online counselling service for children and young people experiencing emotional and mental health issues has launched in Bedford Borough.

    The service, Kooth, is provided by XenZone, an online mental health provider commissioned by Bedford Borough Council and Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, as part of a wider partnership with neighbouring councils and health commissioners.
