  • Public Space Protection Orders in Bedford Borough

    Following consultation earlier this year, two Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) in Bedford Borough are in place for a further three years.

    Orders restricting cycling in the pedestrianised area of the town centre from 9am to 6pm, and dog control orders for various locations, including dog fouling across the Borough were originally introduced in 2016. Since then, over 1,800 fixed penalty notices have been issued to individuals who have been found to be breaking the orders.

  • A422 Road Closure

    The A422 road between Milton Keynes and Bedford to be closed for two weeks in August.

    Milton Keynes Council (MKC) will be carrying out significant highway improvement works and will be closing the A422 between Chicheley roundabout and its junction with the A428 at Bromham.

    The closure will be in place 24 hours a day while works take place between 5 August and 18 August. The road should reopen 19 August.

  • 50,000 Cigarettes Seized

    Officers from Bedford Borough Council’s Trading Standards and Environmental Health Teams, supported by Bedfordshire Police, carried out an operation investigating the sale and supply of illicit tobacco focusing upon several suspected shops in the Midland Road area of Bedford.

    Large quantities of illicit tobacco were found stored in two vehicles associated to the premises, and £4,500 seized from the premises, with three individuals also being arrested as part of the operation.

  • Campaign Launched: Survey Reveals One in Four People Admit to ‘Carefully’ Littering Their Rubbish

    Bedford Borough Council is joining Keep Britain Tidy to tackle ‘careful littering’. This is the coffee cup left on a window ledge, or the sandwich wrapper abandoned on a park bench.

    A YouGov survey revealed that more than a quarter of people (27%) admitted to this kind of littering.   • Works to Tackle Congestion Start on Britannia Road This Weekend

    Improvement works to reduce congestion on Britannia Road, a well-known traffic hotspot, will start this weekend as part of the Transporting Bedford project.

    Britannia Road runs past Bedford Hospital South Wing, and links Ampthill Road and Kempston Road. These works will widen the road and create extra lanes, providing more space for traffic, and deliver major changes to the road layout to help the traffic flow better.
