From favourite places to visit to hidden gems, Bedford Borough Council is shouting about what’s great where we all live in a regular feature.

Every councillor is being invited to answer questions about their ward, to reveal the best places to shop, socialise or spend a lazy Sunday, and to share facts that you might not know or dates that you should put in your diary.

This week it’s Councillor Harish Thapar, who represents Cauldwell ward.

Describe Cauldwell ward in five words.

Warm, welcoming, hospitable, vibrant, togetherness.

What’s your favourite place to shop in Cauldwell ward and why?

Bedford Sweets & Snacks in Elstow Road is a firm favourite as the selection of Punjabi food is very nice, especially their saag and makki ki roti. Sometimes we sit in there to eat or takeaway.

Where is your favourite place to go for a drink in Cauldwell ward and why?

It has to be the London Sweet Centre in Ampthill Road. I always enjoy drinking lassi and it is very tasty from there.

Tell us a great place for a family to visit in Cauldwell ward?

The Bunyan Centre in Mile Road always has lots of activities to choose from for all age groups. They take part in plenty of events throughout the year and have good sporting facilities.

What has been your favourite change that you have seen in Cauldwell ward in recent years?

Members of the community have been more involved in engaging with us. Councillors and residents are happy with the effort we put in as together as a community.

What is the highlight of the calendar year in Cauldwell ward?

The Diwali celebrations at the Bunyan Centre show a real sense of togetherness within the community.

Name one thing that you’d like to see come to Cauldwell ward.

I would like to see more greenery on pathways and more cleanliness on our roads.
