From favourite places to visit to hidden gems, Bedford Borough Council will be shouting about what’s great where we all live in 2026, in a new regular feature.

Every councillor is being invited to answer questions about their ward, from the best places to shop, socialise or spend a lazy Sunday, to facts that you might not know or dates that you should put in your diary.

This week it’s the turn of Councillor Abu Sultan, who represents Cauldwell ward.

What’s your favourite place to shop in Cauldwell and why?

World Foods on Ampthill Road is an important local business and part of everyday life for many residents. It is particularly valued for meeting Bangladeshi dietary needs and for its friendly, welcoming staff.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Cauldwell and why?

Desi Grill on Ampthill Road is a firm favourite. It reflects the cultural richness of the ward and offers consistently high-quality food, especially their spicy donna kebabs.

Where is your favourite place to go for a drink in Cauldwell and why?

The Mile Road Cafe is my favourite place for a drink, as I do not drink alcohol and tea is my drink of choice. Tucked away on Mile Road, it is a small, welcoming cafe with friendly staff, a homely feel, and absolutely delicious chocolate toothpaste tart.

Tell us a great place for a family to visit in Cauldwell.

Moor Lane Green Space is a much-loved part of the ward. It offers families space to enjoy nature, walk along the brook, and spend time together outdoors.

What is a hidden gem in Cauldwell?

The Cauldwell Community Centre on Althorpe Street is a real asset. It supports a wide range of activities and plays an important role in bringing residents together.

What has been your favourite change that you have seen in Cauldwell in recent years?

There has been a growing sense of community confidence and resident involvement. More people are actively engaged in shaping decisions about green spaces and local priorities.

What is the highlight of the calendar year in Cauldwell?

The Festival of Light at the Bunyan Centre brings communities together through music, colour and celebration. Alongside this, activities and events at the Cauldwell Community Centre and other local gatherings reflect the vibrancy, togetherness and shared pride that define Cauldwell.

Name one thing that you’d like to see come to Cauldwell.

Further investment in community facilities would benefit everyone. Modernised spaces for young people and more family focused activities would strengthen Cauldwell even further.
