From favourite places to visit to hidden gems, over the next 12 months Bedford Borough Council will be shouting about what’s great where we all live in a new regular feature.

Every councillor is being invited to answer questions about their ward, to reveal the best places to shop, socialise or spend a lazy Sunday, and to share facts that you might not know or dates that you should put in your diary.

We’re starting with Councillor Dylan Simmons, who represents Bromham ward.

Describe Bromham ward in five words or less.

Charming rural British villages

Where is your favourite place to eat in Bromham ward and why?

We’re blessed with many eateries but the one I frequent the most often is the Baking Suite off of Molivers Lane as it does a fantastic cooked breakfast

Where is your favourite place to go for a drink in Bromham ward and why?

After every meeting of the Turvey Parish Council we frequent one of the two pubs in the village, the Three Cranes and the Three Fyshes.

Tell us a great place for a family to visit in Bromham ward.

Every family should visit the Bromham Mill. Not only is it convenient for some countryside walks but the cafe is excellent and there’s a children’s play area for the little ones

What is a hidden gem in Bromham ward?

It has to be the Church Room at Stevington, home to the Coffee and Croissants event on the first Saturday of every month. A great place to catch up with residents - and host one of my village surgeries!

What is a great club or group in Bromham ward?

Bromham Baptist Church’s cafe, Gathering Grounds, hosts a regular Scrabble Club on a Tuesday afternoon. And even if you’re as terrible at Scrabble as I am, they also do art and craft groups throughout the week.

What has been your favourite change that you have seen in Bromham ward in recent years?

It has probably been the restoration of the church wall in Stagsden. I really admire the way the community came together to donate time and resources to getting it put back in top condition.

What is the highlight of the calendar year in Bromham ward?

This year it will be the Bedfordshire Young Farmers’ Rally in Stagsden on 16 May at Manor Farm.
