Bedford Borough Council has secured an interim injunction to prevent any additional works or occupation of the site known as land south of Bedford Road, Wilstead, Bedfordshire, located off the A6 between Wilstead and Wixams.

Officers were alerted to the land being occupied without planning permission at around 5pm on Friday 29 May and attended within two hours to see if there had been any activity or breaches of planning control.

When a caravan arrived the next day (Saturday 30 May) officers immediately served an emergency planning notice to stop any further occupation or works under the Town and Country Planning Act.

The Council subsequently issued legal proceedings and secured an interim injunction on Thursday 4 June at the High Court.

A Bedford Borough Council spokesperson said: “We attended the site as soon as we were alerted by the public, and thank them for their patience and support.

“We take issues of this nature extremely seriously, just as we know our residents and communities do.

“Breaches of planning control include unauthorised development and/or occupation of a site without planning permission as is the case in Wilstead, breaches of planning control can also include other matters such as unauthorised works to a listed building, and unauthorised works to a protected tree or to a tree in a conservation area.
