Bedford Borough is at the forefront of installing Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points, as part of a nation-wide push to help drivers go greener.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, has teamed up with EV provider Connected Kerb on a new video, which shows how fitting reliable local chargers is providing residents with the confidence to make the switch to an EV.
The initial installation of 260 sockets is being installed by Connected Kerb on behalf of the Council’s Highways Engineering team, and covers areas across Bedford, Kempston and the Borough’s villages, providing access to EV charging for residents that currently don’t have off-street parking.
The EV charging points are funded from the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund from the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).
Through this investment, the Council will increase its EV charging points network with an additional 900-plus sockets to meet the growing demand for EV charge points for local residents and visitors to the Borough.
Councillor Gribble said; “Installing EV charging points across the Borough is making EV ownership more practical and accessible, and gives people greater confidence to choose an EV.
“The future of transport isn’t happening at some distant point; it’s already here. We are creating a cleaner, more connected future for residents and visitors across Bedford Borough.”
