Bedford Borough Libraries’ selection offers something for everyone – and that includes the visually impaired.
HiVis Fortnight runs from 1-14 June and is an opportunity for libraries across the UK to highlight services for those with a vision impairment. Bedford Borough Libraries have a range of large print books as well as spoken word CDs, so customers who are vision impaired can still access great stories.
The format is also available to others who find book print too small or who simply prefer listening to audiobooks.
If a vision impairment means an individual is unable to visit one of our libraries, the Home Library Service can bring the library to them. With a range of large print and spoken word titles available, staff will discuss what sort of books they enjoy and deliver a selection to their home and exchange them on a regular date. For more information about the Home Library Service contact staff at Kempston Library on 01234 276453.
And you can become a library member by speaking to staff at your local library or online at Online Registration - About Your Library - Virtual Library
We are promoting different stock types as part of Bedford Borough Council’s Year of Reading, which is taking place throughout 2025 with a wide range of events and initiatives including town centre performances, literary trails, and author readings.
There will also be a range of volunteering opportunities, such as the chance for adults to volunteer in local primary schools, helping to improve children’s reading skills and life chances.
