Bedford Borough Council is inviting all prospective candidates and their agents for the May 2027 election to attend a dedicated meeting aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process. The briefing will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, at Borough Hall and is a vital opportunity to learn about the nomination process, election rules, important deadlines and legislation changes.
The meeting will cover key topics, including the correct completion and submission of nomination papers, election day procedures, campaign regulations, and details around the count and results process. Council officers will be on hand to answer questions, offer guidance, and support candidates and agents in understanding their roles and responsibilities.
Returning Officer, Laura Church, said, "We strongly encourage all candidates and agents planning to stand in the forthcoming election to attend this meeting. It is essential that everyone is aware of the legal requirements, the timetable, and best practices for conducting a fair and effective campaign. By attending, you help promote a level playing field for all and uphold the democratic process in Bedford Borough."
Attendance is particularly important for first-time candidates and agents but is equally valuable for those with previous experience, as important rules and procedures may have changed since the last election. The session will help make sure no vital information is missed and that everyone is fully prepared ahead of the campaign.
If you are thinking of standing as a candidate in the May 2027 elections or will be an Election Agent, please email elections@bedford.gov.uk to confirm your attendance.
