Bedford Borough Council is announcing a series of events to mark Earth Day 2025, centred around the theme "Our Power, Our Planet". These events aim to inspire local action on climate change and promote sustainable practices across the borough.
Earth Day Business Morning
On Wednesday 30 April 2025, the Council will host a dedicated Business Morning event at the Harpur Suite, bringing together local businesses, sustainability experts, and organisations to build a sustainable future for Bedford Borough.
The event will feature:
- An introduction on inspiring a strong local circular economy
- A free interactive workshop on greening your business
- A networking showcase to leverage local opportunities
- A closing statement on the local path to Net Zero
Councillor Andrea Spice, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Planning and Prosperity, said; "We are excited to offer this opportunity for Bedford's business community to engage with sustainability experts and learn practical strategies for efficiently greening their operations. This event reflects our commitment to supporting local businesses in their transition to more environmentally responsible practices."
Bedford Corn Exchange Illumination
To mark Earth Day on Tuesday 22 April 2025, the Council will illuminate the Bedford Corn Exchange in green from sunset until 1am. This symbolic gesture aims to raise awareness about climate action and remind residents of the potential for a sustainable future through collective efforts.
Climate Fresk Community Workshop
On Earth Day evening, the Council will host a free Climate Fresk Community Workshop at Bedford Borough Hall, 6-9pm. This interactive session, delivered by Climate Clarity, will help participants gain a deeper understanding of climate science and explore ways to engage others in meaningful climate education.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, commented; "These Earth Day events demonstrate Bedford Borough Council's commitment to leading by example in addressing climate change. We invite all residents, businesses, and community organisations to join us in reflecting on how we can collectively contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for Bedford."
