Bedford Borough Council is proud to announce its success at the inaugural APSE Energy Awards, receiving recognition in the Accessing and Managing Finance category for its Bedford Green Energy Park project. Sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the awards celebrate local authorities leading the way in innovative and sustainable approaches to achieving net zero.
The Bedford Green Energy Park is an initiative that transforms a closed restored landfill site into a hub for low-carbon, clean energy generation technologies. The project not only delivers sustainable energy solutions but also serves as an educational resource and training facility, encouraging businesses and communities to embrace innovative technologies that reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.
This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of the Council’s project team in securing SEMLEP funding, ensuring that the Green Energy Park is a sustainable investment opportunity for the Borough. The initiative aligns with the Council’s pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030, demonstrating its commitment to a cleaner, greener future.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton, said: "We are delighted that Bedford Borough Council’s efforts in delivering sustainable energy solutions have been recognised at the APSE Energy Awards. The Bedford Green Energy Park is a fantastic example of how we can turn challenges into opportunities - repurposing a former landfill site to support our journey to net zero. This project is not only about generating clean energy but also about inspiring others to adopt innovative solutions for a more sustainable future."
Bedford Borough Council extends its congratulations to all winners and finalists of the APSE Energy Awards and thanks all councils for their commitment to tackling climate change.
