Bedford Borough Council, in partnership with Clarabut and Plumbe, invites residents to a Baby Remembrance Service on Wednesday 15 October 2025 at 10.45am, held at the Norse Road Crematorium Chapel, Bedford. This touching service offers a supportive space for families and individuals to remember and honour their babies who have been lost. Attendees will have the opportunity to light a candle in memory of their baby during the ceremony.
The service will be led by Kevin Gavaghan, a member of The Association of Independent Celebrants, ensuring a compassionate and respectful ceremony. It is open to adults and children alike and forms part of Baby Loss Awareness Week as well as International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
In addition, Bedford Corn Exchange will be lit pink and blue on the evening of Thursday, 9 October, as a poignant tribute to Baby Loss Awareness Week, symbolising the community’s remembrance and support for bereaved families.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said, “We understand the profound grief experienced by families who have lost a baby, and this service aims to offer solace and a sense of community to those affected. Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time to recognise and support bereaved families, and we encourage anyone who wishes to attend to come along and light a candle in memory of their little one. Lighting the Corn Exchange in pink and blue is another way Bedford Borough stands together in remembrance and support.”
