Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI) 2019

As part of the Income Domain of the Indices of Deprivation 2019, a supplementary index has also been published which measures the proportion of older people who are income deprived - defined as adults aged 60+ receiving Income Support, Pension Credit (Guarantee) or income-based Jobseekers Allowance.

Older people income deprivation in Bedford Borough

Nationally, Bedford Borough is in the mid range on IDAOPI, ranking 164 of 317 English local authorities (where 1 is the most deprived).

However, this average overall ranking masks areas of significant deprivation affecting many residents in Bedford and Kempston Towns. The Borough has seven LSOAs among the 0-10% most deprived areas in England on the IDAOPI measure, five LSOAs among the 10-20% most deprived, and nine among the 20-30% most deprived.

Changes between 2015 and 2019

Compared to the last IDAOPI measure published in 2015, the number of LSOAs in the Borough which fall within the 0-30% most deprived areas nationally has fallen from 23 to 21. However, the number within the 0-10% most severely deprived areas rose from 6 in 2015 to 7 in 2019.
