Mayor's Parlour visits

The Mayor receives requests from groups and individuals for visits to their Parlour. The Mayor considers these requests and determines whether to grant visits. In addition, the Mayor may wish to host events in their Parlour. The number of Parlour visits is likely to be between 300 and 600 a year.

Previous visiting groups

We welcome a wide range of groups and past groups who have visited include local schools, Scouts, Guides, young farmers' groups, as well as overseas visitors.

In the past, consideration has been given to inviting the numbers involved in each visit to 20 people (25 – 30 for children). This both assists in reducing wear and tear to the Parlour and makes the task of welcoming visitors and giving the history of the Parlour a little easier.

Long service presentations

The Mayor hosts long service presentations to staff members who have been employed by the Council for more than 20 years. These presentations are usually held in the Parlour and the Personnel Manager and Assistant Chief Executive via the Mayor’s Secretary will notify details of the individual to whom the presentation is to be made to the Mayor.

The presentations usually involve the Mayor saying a few words about the individual receiving the presentation.

Visitors' Book

We provide a Visitors' Book in which the Mayor may wish to record the names of those who have visited the Parlour during his/her term of office.

At the end of the Mayor’s term of office, he/she may wish to consider leaving a gift to the Council for display in the Parlour as a memento of his/her Mayoral term. There has not been a consistent pattern of such gifts being left to the Council in the last few years.
