About Safe Spaces

Safe Spaces is a community information initiative designed to ensure that anyone feeling vulnerable, anxious, frightened or unsafe in Bedford town centre can access immediate, compassionate support.

Dementia Safe Spaces resources

Dementia affects memory, thinking, communication and orientation. Someone living with dementia may appear confident one moment and confused the next.

Young people Safe Spaces resources

Young people may seek help because they feel frightened, overwhelmed, lost, unwell, pressured, or unsafe. A calm and steady adult response can make a significant difference.

Mental health Safe Spaces resources

Someone experiencing poor mental health or emotional distress may show changes in behaviour mood or communication. When people are feeling overwhelmed, they express it in lots of different ways, but some things that might be helpful to look out for.

Physical disabilities Safe Spaces resources

Physical disabilities affect people in different ways, and may be visible or hidden. Someone with physical disabilities may have issues with their mobility, movement, stamina or coordination. 

Safeguarding Safe Spaces resources

Safeguarding applies to both children and adults who may be at risk of harm, abuse, neglect or exploitation. Everybody in the community has a responsibility to report safeguarding concerns when they are seen.

SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) Safe Spaces resources

Someone with SEND may experience discomfort or may become overwhelmed in response to several different factors, this may be expressed in different ways.
