The HWRC has now reopened. However, due to social distancing measures there have been major changes to how the HWRC operates.
This includes operating a strict appointment only system for visits which can be booked online, fewer parking bays and a restriction on the type of vehicles allowed. We are unable to accept tyres and soil.
Be prepared to queue for entry to the site as it is operating on a ‘one in, one out’ basis.
Please ensure you read and understand the information below before you book your appointment. Do not visit the site without an appointment or with waste items which we are not currently accepting
HWRC new appointment only system
To deposit waste at the site you will be required to book an appointment before visiting and will be given a 15 minute slot to make your visit in. Please do not arrive before your appointment start time.
You will be able to book a slot up to 14 days in advance (subject to availability) and the site will be open between 9am and 5pm 7 days a week.
To obtain an appointment and book your slot please use the online form below.
If you arrive at the site without an appointment you will be turned away. This is to ensure we can limit the number of vehicles and members of the public on site at any time in order to comply with social distancing guidelines.
Please be prepared to queue for entry to the site as we will be operating on a ‘one in, one out’ basis.
Vehicles types allowed
Only cars, 4 x 4s and vans under 2,800kg GVW will be permitted to enter the site. No trailers or large vans or double axle vehicles will be allowed on site. This is to ensure that offloading times are as short as possible to allow the maximum number of visits per hour, and ensure that large vehicles do not get stuck on site due to the new layout.
Waste types allowed
The site can accept the following waste types only:
- general rubbish (black lidded bin)
- small items of furniture
- garden waste (green lidded bin)
- recycling (orange lidded bin)
- small electrical appliances (eg microwaves, kettles, and toasters)
- large domestic appliances (eg fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers, tumble dryers)
- TVs, computer monitors
- fluorescent tubes
- hardcore and rubble - up to 3 items (including broken ceramic tiles, bricks, ceramic sanitary ware eg sinks/toilets. Soil will not be accepted)
- plasterboard - up to 3 sheets
- oil - cooking and automotive
If you bring anything else you may be asked to take it home with you again.
We do not accept
- trees with diameter greater than 30cm
- animal waste
- telegraph poles and railway sleepers
The site will be open for 9am to 5pm seven days a week – there will be no late opening on Saturdays until further notice. This is to allow the site to be effectively cleaned and emptied ready for the next day.
Help unloading waste
Site staff will not be able to provide assistance with unloading waste from cars. This is to ensure guidelines on social distancing can be met. If it took two people to load any heavy items into your vehicle, then you should ensure two people visit the site.
If you need help with large items please arrange a household bulky collection instead.
Commercial waste will not be accepted at the site initially.
Your visit to the site
You will not be permitted to visit the site if you or a member of your household have symptoms of COVID-19 or are self-isolating. Waste from such households should be double bagged and kept securely for a minimum of 72 hours before disposal.
Please ensure you have your appointment details and proof of address to display to staff if asked, and make sure your vehicle windows remain closed. Obey the directions of staff at all times on site.
Bring gloves when you visit - put them on when you get out of your car and take them off before you get back in. If they are reusable, bring a plastic bag to take them home in. If you use disposable gloves please put them in the general waste container on site after you have deposited your last item.
Wash your hands before you visit and when you get home.
