Parking standards for sustainable communities

The SPD provides detailed guidance on locations for car, cycle, disabled and motorbike parking, layouts and dimensions as well as standards in terms of the number of spaces needed by land use.  Guidance on the provision of electric vehicle infrastructure is also included.

The guidance should ensure that provision for all vehicles is designed into proposed developments at the earliest stage. The SPD includes standards which form a consistent basis for discussion between developers and planners, allowing greater certainty when planning applications are submitted which should reduce the time taken to determine parking issues.

The Parking Standards for Sustainable Communities SPD was adopted by the Council’s Executive on 10 September 2014. The SPD replaces the Parking Standards SPG adopted in 1996 and Cycle Parking Standards adopted in 2006.
