Withdrawal of the Local Plan 2040
The Bedford Local Plan 2040 was submitted to the secretary of state for independent examination on 12 January 2023.
At the full Council meeting on 8 October 2025 Councillors voted to withdraw the Local Plan from examination. The Council’s formal letter to the inspector confirming this can be viewed in the examination documents at ED102. The withdrawal of the Local Plan from examination signifies the closure of the examination and any further queries about the Local Plan or Examination should be directed to the Council.

Mr Darren McCreery MA BA (Hons) MRTPI from the Planning Inspectorate was appointed by the secretary of state to carry out the independent examination of the Local Plan 2040. The independent examination considered the soundness of the submitted plan and whether it has been prepared in accordance with the legal and procedural requirements.
