Call for Sites and development opportunities (July to October 2026)

As one of our biggest and most important priorities, the Bedford Borough Local Plan 2050 sets out the Borough’s long-term direction and shapes the places that matter to you.

This is where you come in! We are inviting all key stakeholders – landowners, developers, businesses, community groups, parish councils and residents – to suggest sites and development opportunities that could help shape the Borough's future.

These may include:

  • housing and employment sites
  • leisure, recreation and community facilities
  • town centre and retail uses
  • renewable energy and regeneration projects

The exercise is open to anyone wishing to promote land and development opportunities, from small infill sites through to large strategic locations. You need to own the site or land parcel or have permission from the landowner to submit it.

See our call for sites page to find out more about how you submit sites and development opportunities.

Adoption of supplementary planning documents

We have adopted four new supplementary planning documents that provide advice and guidance on the design and layout of new development within different parts of the borough, including design codes, development briefs and supporting guidance (eg tall buildings). Together, they will help create well-designed, high-quality and vibrant places where people want to live, work and visit.

See our other planning policy guidance page for links to the documents.

These documents are interim versions while final layout and formatting are being completed.
