Island Green Power is proposing a new solar farm located in an area of countryside within the administrative boundaries of North Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes Councils, located between the towns of Northampton, Wellingborough and Bedford.
Called Green Hill Solar Farm, the project covers an area of approximately 1,194.8 hectares (ha) excluding the Cable Route Search Area and Cable Corridor(s).
The project consists of an electricity generating station with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW) comprising of ground mounted solar arrays and associated development including energy storage, grid connection infrastructure and other infrastructure integral to the construction, operation and maintenance of the scheme.
Following the Applicant’s statutory and targeted consultations held in 2024 and earlier in 2025, it submitted its DCO application in May 2025. The Planning Inspectorate accepted the application for examination in June 2025.
