  • Free Multi-Storey Car Parking All Weekend

    Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced that parking in all multi-storey car parks in Bedford will be free this weekend, 26 and 27 February.

    A fault in BT cabling has affected card payments in Council parking machines in multi storey car parks, which has meant that residents have been forced to pay by cash.

    From 6pm on Friday evening through to Monday morning when the Council anticipates that BT will have fixed the fault, car parking in all multi-storey car parks will be free....

  • Deep Clean on the Timetable for Bedford Bus Station

    Over the last weekend of February, starting today - Friday 25 February- and finishing on Sunday 27, Bedford Borough Council will be carrying out a deep clean and maintenance works at Bedford Bus Station.

  • Businesses Urged to Apply for One-Off Grant

    Bedford Borough Council is urging local hospitality and leisure businesses to apply for a one off support grant, expected to be around £650.

    This grant is through Government-funded discretionary Omicron grant scheme, and the Council is using it to support hospitality and leisure businesses that did not receive a grant through the main scheme. These include businesses in the following sectors:

  • Bedford Borough Council Launches Fly-Tipping Information Appeal

    Bedford Borough Council has invested in new, portable CCTV cameras that they are deploying at fly-tipping hotspots around Bedford Borough.

    The Council is using footage to help identify vehicles present in the vicinity of fly-tipping or individuals who may have information about fly-tipping so that enforcement action can be taken against the appropriate persons who are engaged in this activity.   • Amber Weather Warning Declared

    The Met Office have declared an Amber Warning for wind from 3am to 9pm on Friday 18 February over a large section of the country, including Bedford Borough with the arrival of Storm Eunice.

  • Students from The Bedford College Group Fix Town Centre Floor Chimes

    Earlier in the year, Bedford Borough Council enlisted the support of The Bedford College Group and ten of their Level Three engineering students to repair the floor chimes that are located on Harpur Street in Bedford Town Centre.

  • Bedford Borough Council Provide School Holiday Food Vouchers


    Bedford Borough Council will be providing vouchers to families with children eligible for income related free school meals.

    Funded through the Household Support Fund, the council will provide households £25 per eligible child or young person in Bedford Borough for February half term.

    The £25 is made up from £15 to support a daily meal and a supplementary £10 allocation, which is being provided to help off-set any extra spend on utility bills and other household expenses...

    Today is the start of National HIV Testing Week, which runs from 7th to 13th February 2022. To mark the week, Bedford Borough Council is working alongside HIV Prevention England to provide free HIV home sampling kits to local residents.

    As part of the Traffic Management Act (2022), the Government will be giving councils the option to apply for powers to enforce against ‘moving traffic offences’. Currently, only the Police can enforce against these offences.
