Walk against stalking 2024

Bedford Borough Council is hosting a community walk in support of National Stalking Awareness Week, taking place on Friday, 25 April, 2025. This event aims to unite residents and professionals from Bedford Borough and across Bedfordshire in raising awareness about stalking and its profound impact on individuals' lives.

Last year's walk was a resounding success, providing a powerful platform for networking and sharing stories. It brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of community and solidarity against stalking. This year, we invite everyone to join us again, as we continue to build on the momentum and strengthen our collective efforts to combat this crime.

Stalking affects anyone, both online and offline, causing fear, anxiety, and harassment. It is crucial for our community to come together to combat this crime. The walk provides an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and hear from others, fostering a supportive environment. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to engage with experts from local domestic abuse specialist support organisations from the Bedfordshire Domestic Abuse Partnership. This provides the opportunity to gain valuable insights and advice.

Councillor Jane Walker, portfolio Holder for Valuing Families: Children’s Services at Bedford Borough Council, said; "Stalking is a serious issue that affects far too many people. By joining forces against stalking, we can create a safer and more supportive community for everyone. This walk is an excellent opportunity for us to stand together and raise awareness about this critical issue."

The event will take place on Friday, 25 April. Participants are asked to gather outside the reception of Bedford Borough Hall, Cauldwell Street, Bedford, at 11.15am. The walk will cross Riverside Bridge, go through the Harpur Centre, and weave its way back to The Embankment. The group will cross the river at the Butterfly Bridge and return to Bedford Borough Hall along the riverside path. The walk is expected to last approximately one hour, allowing everyone to enjoy the beautiful surroundings while contributing to an important cause.
