Tom Wootton, directly elected Mayor of Bedford Borough said; “This was a shocking incident, and our hearts go out to all the victims, their loved ones and all those affected.
“An act like this, of such appalling violence, has no place in our society. Bedford Borough stands united in condemning what happened, sending our love and support, and thanking those first responders who were at the scene.
“I urge everyone not to speculate and allow the police to carry out their investigations. I would also like to thank Bedfordshire Police who have increased patrols in the county to ensure that residents feel safe and supported.
“Whilst Bedford Borough has never had a large Jewish community, two of my most recent predecessors were of Jewish descent – the final ceremonial mayor Judith Cunningham, and the first elected mayor Frank Branston. Our council, borough, county and nation have all been built on compassion and respect. An attack on any of our communities is an attack on us all and we stand with Manchester."
