Bedford Music Service is excited to announce the launch of the Ukulibrary for local children, a new initiative with Bedford Central Library that offers a fun and free way to borrow a ukulele and start playing music. The launch event will take place on Saturday, 29 November, 2pm, at Bedford Central Library, Harpur Square, Bedford.
The event will feature a lively performance by students from Balliol Primary School and an opportunity to receive tips and advice from Bedford Music Service ukulele teachers. This exciting project aims to support children who enjoy ukulele lessons through Bedford Music Service each year, helping them continue their musical journey. It will also enable children who are not yet taking part in lessons to pick up a ukulele, take it home, and give it a try.
Children with a valid library card can borrow a ukulele and access recommended learning resources curated by Bedford Music Service, allowing them to progress at their own pace. It is quick and easy to join the library, find out how online or by visiting any Bedford Borough library during staffed hours.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said, “We’re thrilled to launch the Ukulibrary, which brings music and joy to children in Bedford Borough in a unique way. This initiative supports creativity and learning, making music more accessible. We encourage all parents and carers to come along to the launch with their children and discover the fun of playing the ukulele."
Entry to the launch event is free. For more details, visit Bedford Music Service’s What’s On page:
