Bedford Borough Council is set to launch new capital grant schemes funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF), providing vital financial support to local organisations and businesses. These schemes are now open to applications, with the application window closing on Monday 30 June 2025 at midday.

The purpose of these grant schemes is to empower local communities, stimulate economic growth, and promote opportunities across Bedford Borough. The capital grants will support projects that enhance community infrastructure, foster innovation, and drive sustainable development in both urban and rural areas. REPF community and business grants specifically target eligible rural areas within the borough, while UKSPF Community Infrastructure grants are available borough-wide.

Funded by the UK Government through the UKSPF and REPF allocations for 2025 and 2026, Bedford Borough Council has been awarded £138,693 of UKSPF capital funding and £165,675 of REPF capital funding.  The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.

The schemes will benefit a wide range of stakeholders including voluntary groups, community organisations, businesses, and parish councils. By providing access to capital funding, these grants will enable recipients to invest in physical assets such as buildings, equipment, and infrastructure improvements that support community development and local economic prosperity.

Councillor Andrea Spice, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Planning and Prosperity, said, “We are delighted to launch these grant schemes which will provide essential funding to help our local organisations and businesses thrive. These investments will strengthen our communities, support innovation, and contribute to the long-term economic growth of Bedford Borough. We encourage all eligible groups to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to make a real difference locally.”

Applicants should note that grant funding agreements must be signed before any spending begins, and projects must be completed with all costs claimed by 31 January 2026. Co-funding is required and must be secured at the time of application. Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received UKSPF or REPF grants.
