Bedford Borough Council is pleased to announce the installation of new noticeboards and welcome signage at Bedford Park and Addison Howard Park. These enhancements are part of the council's ongoing commitment to improving the visitor experience and providing valuable information to the community.
The new noticeboards and welcome signage replace outdated and tired information points, offering a more traditional and informative look at the entrances to these two Green Flag awarded parks. The improvements will make it easier for park users to find useful information, upcoming events, and local amenities.
"We are excited to see these new noticeboards and signage, which will enhance the overall experience for visitors to Bedford Park and Addison Howard Park," Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture. "These improvements demonstrate our dedication to creating welcoming and informative public spaces for our residents and visitors."
The installation of the new noticeboards and signage has now been completed. The project has been funded through internal council budgets, reflecting the ongoing investment in the maintenance and improvement of these popular parks.
Bedford Borough Council would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the parks and maintenance teams throughout the year. Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring the ongoing upkeep and improvement of these valuable public spaces.
In Bedford Park works over the last few years include complete refurbishment of the playground nearest the lake, improvements and refurbishment to the fitness area and basketball court, and tennis court refurbishment. Further works have included the start of a programme of topping up Breedon gravel pathways, bench replacements along the central promenade, creation of wildflower areas, ongoing maintenance to resolve issues with the pumps in the pond, and just last week extensive weed maintenance to the herbaceous borders.
Future plans at Bedford Park include the refurbishment of the bandstand, which is currently going through the planning permission process and the continued replacement of park benches. Following a review, there are now also new processes in place to better protect the grass during events held at the park throughout the year.
Addison Howard Park, Kempston has recently seen the playground being completely refurbished, tree planting to deter unauthorised vehicles from entering the park, along with a new events entrance gate along the main drive.
