Bedford Borough Council is asking residents to ‘Do One Thing’ to improve their financial wellbeing.
This year, Bedford Borough Council is encouraging everyone to take a small or significant step towards improving their financial situation. The 'Do One Thing' campaign invites residents to take an action that feels right for them – whether it's reviewing their budget, checking their pension plan, or simply talking to a child about pocket money. It could even be as simple as visit the council’s cost of living page to see what support might be available.
One easy step for many residents is to ‘Do One Thing’ and download the HMRC app. More than 1.7 million people already use the app every month, and it’s a great way to save time and simplify the management of money and tax. The app offers a range of services, including making a Child Benefit claim, finding your National Insurance number, and using a tax calculator to estimate your take-home pay – all in one place, right at your fingertips.
Cllr Graeme Coombes, Portfolio Holder for Finance said, “We understand that money can be a source of stress for many, but we are encouraging people to start open, positive conversations around finances.
“Whether you choose to make a big financial decision or just have a conversation about money with a loved one, each step can make a real difference to your wellbeing. We encourage everyone in Bedford Borough to get involved and ‘do one thing’ that will bring them closer to financial confidence.”
The Council also encourages residents to share what they’ve done with friends, family, or colleagues, to help inspire others to take part in the initiative. Talking openly about money can not only improve financial decision-making but can also reduce the pressure and anxiety that often accompany money worries, ultimately benefiting personal health and relationships.
