Step into the world of John Bunyan when you visit this 15th century timber-framed market hall, set on the village green in the centre of the delightful village of Elstow.
Originally built to serve Elstow Abbey as a market house, Moot Hall features beautiful period furniture and has exhibits relating to Elstow-born author John Bunyan.
There is also a fine collection of 17th and 18th century furniture and clocks, various exhibits relating to 17th century life in Elstow and a collection of historic pictures of May Festivals.
Opening times
Saturday from Easter (or beginning of April), to the end of October: from 1pm to 4pm.
Bank Holiday Mondays from 1pm to 4pm.
You may also visit by appointment - contact the curator via moot.hall@bedford.gov.uk.
Casual visitors: If the curator is available, he may open the Hall on request – see details on the noticeboard on Elstow Green.
Admission
Admission is free but, if you enjoy your visit, please leave a donation (suggested donation of £5 per person).
Schools
School groups are welcome and there is no admission charge for local schools. Please email moot.hall@bedford.gov.uk for details.
Location
Location: Moot Hall, Church End, Elstow, Bedford, MK42 9XT. As you enter Church End, Moot Hall and a car park is almost immediately on the right.
Disabled access
Access to the upper floor is by stairs or stair lift. There are ancient timbers set into the ground floor, making some areas difficult to access for wheelchair users.
Elstow Green hire
