We may ask you to provide further proof of identification when you ask us for information.

Documents accepted for ID purposes

The applicant must be able to show:

  • one document from Group 1

and

  • one further document from Group 2

If you do not have one document from Group 1, please send three documents from Group 2.

Group 1

  • Passport
  • Biometric residence permit
  • Current photo driving licence with counterpart
  • Birth certificate – issued at time of birth

Group 2

  • Current paper driving licence
  • Birth certificate – issued after time of birth
  • Marriage / civil partnership certificate
  • Adoption certificate
  • HM Forces ID card
  • Firearms licence
  • Mortgage Statement
  • Credit card, bank or building society statement
  • P40 or P45 statement
  • Council tax statement
  • Work permit or visa
  • Utility bill
  • Benefit statement

For some subject access requests, especially those involving sensitive services, such as children’s and adults’ social care, we may need to ask for additional documentation. This helps us confirm your identity and/or legal authority to access the information.

Examples of additional information we may need, include proof of parental responsibility, a court order, or a letter of authority when requesting information on someone else’s behalf.

If this is the case, we will let you know as soon as possible. Please note, the one-month timeframe for responding to your request may be paused until we receive the necessary information.
