Bedford Borough Council is excited to announce the return of its popular tulip bulb giveaway, inviting local community groups to participate. This year, the Council has 33,000 tulip bulbs available for distribution, offering a wonderful opportunity for community groups to add vibrant spring colours to their neighbourhoods.

As the stunning floral displays along The Embankment have come to an end, Bedford Borough Council continues its tradition of offering these bulbs to community groups. This initiative has previously benefited a wide range of organisations, including Parish Councils, schools, religious groups, community gardens, nature groups, scouts, brownies, care homes, hospices, and resident associations.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience at Bedford Borough Council, said, “This year, over 33,000 tulips were planted along The Embankment, creating a breathtaking display. With the blooms now over, we are delighted to offer tulip bulbs to local community groups. This initiative not only beautifies our borough but also fosters community spirit as groups come together to plant and nurture these bulbs.”

Community groups interested in receiving tulip bulbs should contact bugsandbees@bedford.gov.uk by Wednesday 29 May. When making a request, please specify the group you represent and the intended location for planting the tulip bulbs.

Don’t miss this chance to bring a splash of springtime colour to your community!

One of the reasons that the council chooses not to reuse the tulip bulbs is that they are likely to not flower quite as well in their second year. While they will still look lovely anywhere they are planted, they would not meet the required standard for the formal annual bedding display along The Embankment.
