Bedford Borough Council is thrilled to announce the return of Music in the Meadows to the picturesque Mill Meadows Bandstand. This August, come along with your family and a picnic, for two hours of delightful traditional bandstand music. It’s perfect for a relaxed Sunday afternoon by the riverside.
Councillor Andrea Spice, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Planning and Prosperity, said, “Music in the Meadows is a much-loved tradition in Bedford, and I'm delighted to see it return to the Mill Meadows Bandstand this summer.
“It's a fantastic opportunity to relax in the beautiful surroundings of Mill Meadows and the Great River Ouse, enjoy some wonderful music, and soak up the atmosphere. I encourage everyone to come along and join us for what promises to be a fantastic series of concerts.”
Every Sunday in August, from 3pm to 5pm, talented bands will fill the air with vibrant melodies.
4 August: Bedford Town Band kicks off the series with a rousing performance. Established in 1894 Bedford Town Band promotes traditional English brass banding and musical arts.
11 August: May Blossom takes the stage, bringing a touch of floral charm. Often found at 1940’s events across the UK, May Blossom performs a wonderful selection of remembrance, singalong and dance numbers.
18 August: Get ready to swing with Mainline Big Band. This is a full-sized big band, including two vocalists, who play music from the 1920’s to the present day.
25 August: Fynnius Fogg closes out the month with a fun-filled finale, this one starts earlier, at 2pm but still finishes at 5pm. This legendary 70’s pop group and charity band started playing pop and rock numbers together in the late 60’s. They reformed at a reunion party in 1991 and have since raised money for various charities, rather than taking fees for gigs themselves.
Bring your picnic blanket, grab some snacks, and settle in for a delightful afternoon amongst the beautiful surroundings of the Embankment. There will be a limited number of deckchairs for visitors and people are welcome to bring along their own chairs too.
The concerts are completely free and open to everyone. The bandstand is located in Mill Meadows, Bedford, easily accessible by foot, bicycle, or public transport. It can be found between the Suspension Bridge and Bedford Lock. It has the What3Words location of https://w3w.co/mild.skips.loudly. The closest car park is Longholme Way.
