Bedford Borough Council is happy to announce the success of another Bedford Junior Aquathlon, a captivating event aimed at fostering a passion for sports among young enthusiasts. The Aquathlon, held on Sunday, March 24, witnessed the active participation of 116 eager contestants, spanning across school years 3 to 11, at the prestigious Robinson Pool and Bedford Park.

This event, organised to promote sportsmanship and active lifestyles among children, featured an exhilarating swim and run challenge tailored to accommodate various age groups. The Bedford Junior Aquathlon not only serves as a platform for friendly competition but also encourages participants to push their limits, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-improvement.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said, "The Bedford Junior Aquathlon continues to inspire local young athletes, cultivating a culture of healthy competition and togetherness."

She further added, "It's truly heartening to see 116 children, including numerous first-time participants, embrace this challenge with such enthusiasm. We commend their dedication and resilience and look forward to the next event in October."

One of the primary objectives of the Bedford Junior Aquathlon is to promote inclusivity and encourage sports participation among youngsters of all abilities. The event warmly welcomed both novices and seasoned contenders, underscoring its inclusive values. Every participant received a medal, while trophies were awarded to the top three performers in each category to reward their achievements.

The Aquathlon, hosted at the Robinson Pool and Bedford Park, provided a platform for children to not only compete against their peers but also surpass their personal bests. The event underscored the notion that sports are for everyone, emphasising the importance of participation and enjoyment above all.

Bedford Borough Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, their families, and the dedicated organisers and volunteers who contributed to the resounding success of the Bedford Junior Aquathlon 2024.

A parent who witnessed the event shared, "It was the first time my son has taken part in this and wanted to say how well I thought it was run and how much he enjoyed it. More importantly, it was noticeable how everyone assisting in the running of this event were so kind and reassuring to all of the children throughout the event, making sure they were OK and their nerves were put at ease. So thank you to all of the team."
