The Council, Executive and Committees
In Bedford Borough, the Full Council is made up of 46 Borough Councillors and the Elected Mayor.
It approves, amends and adopts the Council’s major policies and budget.
The Executive is made up of the Mayor and eight Borough Councillors who are Portfolio Holders.
It has overall responsibility for most Council services.

Overview and Scrutiny Committees
To balance the Executive’s powers, Overview and Scrutiny Committees are responsible for holding the Executive to account and making sure the best decisions are taken for Bedford Borough.
