Newly qualified teachers

You can access information about the support we provide as a Local Authority for newly qualified teachers here. Bedford Borough makes excellent provision and support for its new teachers because we value the energy and enthusiasm they bring to the teaching community.

We have a thorough monitoring system that tracks your progress over your first year. This is supplemented by a core Induction programme that guarantees the support you need. We also have a comprehensive professional development programme offering enrichment opportunities.

Recruiting newly qualified teachers

Employing newly qualified teachers (NQTs) can bring many positive benefits for schools, for example:

  • new ideas
  • enthusiasm and energy
  • new skills/subject specialisms
  • opportunities for existing staff to develop coaching and mentoring skills and reflect on their own practice

We hope the below leaflet will help recruit NQTs and enable you to put in place an appropriate programme of induction.
