A Holocaust Memorial Day event is scheduled to take place at the Anne Frank tree in Bedford on Thursday 25 January at 12.30pm, with a short ceremony dedicated to honouring those who lost their lives during the Nazi persecution.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2024 is "Fragility of Freedom," and the public are invited to join in paying their respects.

Mayor Tom Wootton said, "All are welcome to attend the commemoration event, hosted by Bedford Council of Faiths with the short ceremony led by Lydia Saul assisted by Dr Virendra Soni.  Holocaust Memorial Day provides an opportunity to recognise the widespread challenges endured by many people around the world who face restrictions to their freedoms to live, worship, work and love freely. Freedom is fragile and it must not be taken for granted.

“This poignant and thought-provoking ceremony serves as a reminder of the critical need to stand united against racism, discrimination, and hatred."

Cass Howes says, “Bedford Council of Faiths is pleased to offer this opportunity for people to come together, to recall The Holocaust and reflect on its impact felt deeply by those of all faiths even in this present time”.

The ceremony will take place at the Anne Frank tree, situated between Pembroke and Bower Street in Russell Park.
