Bedford Borough Council is warning people not to fly-tip or dump waste this Christmas holiday.

Instead, people are being encouraged to use the local Household Waste Recycling Centre at Barkers Lane, Bedford MK41 9SB to dispose of any bulky waste.

Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “We always see an increase in household waste over the festive period so please be sure to recycle as much as you can. Additional recycling can be placed in a clear sack or cardboard box and placed next to your recycling bin.”

“Please don’t resort to fly-tipping. Fly-tipping is a criminal offence which costs the Council thousands of pounds to clean up. It can also be a hazard to local people and wildlife and is a real blight on the environment.

“Anyone who is caught risks a £400 fixed penalty notice or being prosecuted in Court.”

If you see items that have been fly-tipped on the street or someone in the process of fly-tipping “Report It” on our website.
