Bedford Borough Council is excited to announce that nominations for the prestigious Bedford Sports and Physical Activity Awards 2023 are now open. This annual event, now in its 29th year, aims to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by individuals, clubs, and coaches to local sports and physical activities. Residents of Bedford Borough are invited to participate by nominating the deserving candidates who have made a significant impact on the local community.
For nearly three decades, the Bedford Sports and Physical Activity Awards have been a beacon of recognition, honouring the dedication and achievements of numerous sporting clubs, teams, and individuals. The awards ceremony for this year is scheduled to take place on Monday, 11 December 2023, at the Bedford Corn Exchange.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "These awards highlight the extraordinary efforts of individuals, teams, and organisations in our community who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sports and physical activities.

The awards encompass a wide range of categories for contributions made throughout the year. Nominations can be made for a number of categories that include, Junior and Adult Personalities, Unsung Hero, and the School, Club, Community Club/Group, Coach, and Young Volunteer of the Year. Additionally, the prestigious Service to Sport Award will be presented to an individual who has made significant contribution to sports over an extended period of time.
Originally initiated by Sport Bedford, the Bedford Sports and Physical Activity Awards are supported by various local companies, reflecting the community's collaborative spirit.
Residents are encouraged to nominate candidates they believe deserve recognition for their exceptional contributions to local sports and physical activities. Nomination forms and detailed information about the award categories can be accessed on the Bedford Borough Council website at www.bedford.gov.uk/sportsawards. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 23 November 2023, at 5pm.
