Bedford Borough Council has announced the new bin collection dates for the Christmas period and the calendar for 2024 is now available online. Residents are encouraged to save www.bedford.gov.uk/bins to their favourites so they can easily check what bin is being collected, and when, any time they need to. It is also possible to find a printable version of the bin calendar on the same page that can be downloaded and printed.

Collections that would have been made on Christmas Day will be collected on Saturday 23 December. Collections from 26 December to 5 January will be collected the day after their usual collection day. For instance, if a resident's usual collection day is a Monday, then the bin will emptied on the Tuesday during this time. Collections return to normal from Monday 8 January. Remember, extra recycling can be collected if it is left in a clear sack or cardboard board next to the orange-lidded bin on the day of collection.

Residents are encouraged to consider printing an extra copy of the bin collection calendar for friends or family members who may not have online access. For those without printing facilities at home, free computer and Wi-Fi access is available at all Bedford Borough Libraries, with a small printing charge. Visit www.bedford.gov.uk/libraries for opening hours and additional details.

Jim Weir, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Highways, and Transport at Bedford Borough Council, expressed enthusiasm about the online calendars, stating, "We are delighted to provide residents with easy access to these bin collection calendars online. It's a convenient way for residents to check their collection dates any time they like, especially during the busy festive season."

Cllr Weir went on to add, “It’s also fantastic that we are able to offer residents the opportunity to drop off their real Christmas trees at eight different sites for free from the 28 December, do please remember to remove all the decorations first!”

Bedford Borough Council will once again be running its Real Christmas Tree recycling sites this year. These eight collection points allow residents to drop off their real Christmas tree, at any time, for council staff to collect and take them to be recycled, all free of charge. Please remember to remove all decorations and pots or containers from the trees.

From Thursday, 28 December, to Tuesday, 9 January, eight Christmas tree recycling sites will be available across Bedford Borough;

Hillgrounds Road, Kempston, opposite the shops near Hartwell Drive.

Jubilee Park, Bedford, opposite North Lodge, Canvin Way.

Milton Ernest Garden Centre, Radwell Road, off the A6.

Mowsbury Park Car Park, Bedford, Kimbolton Road.

Podington Garden Centre, High Street, Podington.

Roxton Garden Centre, A421, neat A1 Black Cat Roundabout.

Seasons Garden Centre, Bedford Road, Wixams/Wilstead.

Bedford Household Waste Recycling Centre, Barkers Lane, Bedford.

It is not possible to shred trees on sites, so wood chips will not be available for the public.
