I am interested – what do I have to do?

We’re really pleased you want to take it further and the next step is getting in touch by calling us on 01234 718718 or emailing adoptionandfostering@bedford.gov.uk to arrange a call back.

What happens next?

We will have a chat, ask some questions and take your details.

Next we will arrange for an initial visit; a social worker will come to your house to discuss fostering in more detail and answer any questions you might have. At this stage, we will also carry out the required statutory checks.

The next stage is completing a short application form to start the assessment process. You will be expected to attend Skills to Foster training, which will give you a more in-depth understanding of fostering.

This will then progress onto a full and comprehensive assessment of you and your family, which normally lasts four to six months.

Once this is complete, we will present your case to panel, where recommendations will be made for approval.

Finally, once you are approved, you’ll have your first placement.

We would love to hear from you, please call 01234 718718 or email adoptionandfostering@bedford.gov.uk
